EUREKA!

THE CHECK ARRIVED TODAY!

For $1,100 more than I expected. They had miscalculated the interest.

Whew!

Now I have some breathing room.

CHICKEN LITTLE...

SHOULD HAVE HIS MEDS ADJUSTED

I see that some semi-quasi-qualified professor on the Big Island has filed a lawsuit in Federal Court in Honolulu to have CERN, located in Switzerland, shut down. He fears that the LHC (world's largest) will create "black holes" and suck the Earth into non-existence.

I don't know about the rest of you but this isn't even a blip on my "worry" radar.

A solar wind stream hit Earth on March 26th, sparking bright auroras as far south as Oregon, Michigan and Wisconsin in the United States. More images here..

Well, ¼ of the year is now gone. Like everyone else, I've had my ups & downs. Lets hope the "ups" overshadow the "downs" by the end of the year.

Don't forget, tomorrow is April Fool's Day. Be careful!

ALOHA

ALOHA

Aloha Airlines, which has served the Hawai'ian Islands since 1946, announced today that it would suspend all passenger operations effective Tuesday, April 1st.

No joke.

They filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this month and immediately put the company up for sale. There were no takers.

Their freight operations and contract terminal service operations are expected to continue, for the time being. Aloha provides terminal service to major mainland carriers, like United, in Hawai'i.

Thats about 1,900 people who will lose their jobs. Not to mention the employee loss to the vendors that service Aloha.

Our governor, Linda Lingle (R), has said she will force Aloha to remain in operation and will have the Attorney General file such a request in the Federal Bankruptcy Court.

And that the State will have its "Rapid Response Team" in place in 4 or 5 days to assist those who have been affected on the 4 major islands.

Gee, 4-5 days for a "Rapid Response" seems oxymoronic to me.

OKAY, HERE IT IS

THE FIRST EVER SOUND RECORDING

As you would expect, the quality is poor but audible.

Au Clair de la Lune--French folk song

It is about 10 seconds long. Oh, and pump up the volume.

"YOU'VE BEEN PRESELECTED

FOR A CREDIT CARD APPLICATION"

That was the only damn piece of mail I got yesterday. Fingers are crossed that Monday will be the day that damn check arrives. Also received a text message that the cell will shut down either today or Monday. And to put the cherry on yesterday, I fell asleep and my landlord called a couple of times inviting me to have a bar-b-que dinner with him and his family. That was very kind of him and I am really sorry that I missed the calls.

Yup. Yesterday was not high on the list of outstanding days.

"Jules Verne", the ESA unmanned space freighter is on its maiden flight and should dock with the ISS on Monday. "Jules Verne" is the biggest, most sophisticated spacecraft yet flown by the European Space Agency. I didn't even know it had been launched until yesterday. Pretty advanced stuff here. It is totally self navigating, up to and including docking with the space station. This BBC news article will give you all the info and, if you scroll down to the end, there is a Google map in "real time" showing exactly where the "Jules Verne" currently is in orbit. This map is in motion 24/7. No need to reload.

We've all been taught that Thomas A. Edison was the first person to record sound. OOPS! Turns out the first sound recording was made 17 years earlier, in 1860 France. I'd play you the 10-second clip but then I'd probably be taken to court by the RIAA for piracy.

I didn't realize that UK internet users have limits on usage. That sounds like the early days of the internet in America. Doesn't seem fair to me.

***
Possible new evidence has been discovered in the only unsolved sky-jacking in US history. "D. B. Cooper" is a true American folk hero. I would have thought that the Statute of Limitations would have expired by now, 37 years later.

***
In Australia, people spend more time on "the net" than they do watching television. Can't say that I blame them, if their TV is as bad as ours.

***
In 2007 more money was spent for internet display ads that spot ads on radio. Thats a first.

Maybe I should move to Montana:
lobbyists said the dispute amounted to "political theater" between a lame-duck administration trying to claim progress and opponents trying to unravel the nationwide effort
More on our de facto National ID program. You think the current admisistration would get the picture when 17 states have said "NO!"

Want to bet that not only will they prevent the use of a DL by residents from non-compliant states but will also withhold Federal Highway funds. And will people with non-compliant licensing be restricted from operating a motor vehicle outside of their home state? Wouldn't surprise me.

This one is really going to torque Lugosi's jaws. Along with everyone's else's, I hope. Right out of the book/movie "1984".

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend. I hope to see you tomorrow.

THEOLOGY 101

FROM THE AGES

The following are from the movie "Zeitgeist"

I am not trying to disturb anyone's belief system or to foster my own tenets on others. I just feel that people should be aware of the facts.

Probably the reason I was kicked out of Sunday School when I was in my early teens. I tended to ask too many questions and refused to accept the dogma provided.

I thought one of the basic premises of the Republican party was to reduce the amount of government regulation. Considering how well our President's decision making process has gone over the past (almost) 8 years, do you actually believe that this one will be any better.

Enjoy your weekend, everybody. I'll see you tomorrow.

ANOTHER MONTH

ALMOST OVER

I was checking on the videos that I have posted at YouTube. Why? Hell, I don't know. I was bored. Anyway, I was surprised that some of them have had hits into the 1,000's. Oh, I know that there are a lot that are in the millions but I usually don't post the stuff that is part of pop culture. So any significant number of hits beyond what my loyal readership provides is amazing.

My good friend Bev, for almost 10 years, made a post over at Cosmik Yatta the other day about Spring finally arriving in far north New Hampshire, where she and her husband, David, live. In their part of the world there are 2 seasons - WINTER and spring/summer/fall. Okay, thats is a bit of an exaggeration. Maybe. This past winter has been the 3rd worst in history.

***
I see that the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) now determines what is appropriate jewelery to wear when boarding a plane.

Does anyone else see the corollary between how the gov't/airline industry treats people and the way that southern California meat packing plant handled their sick & injured cattle?

***
Yesterday was "shopping day" for me. I have been living on an extremely frugal budget and my body has started protesting the lack of necessary nutrients. So I noticed that SubWay has a special on, offering $5 footlong subs. Of course, in Hawai'i, its $5.99 but they are very healthy and one of their subs lasts me 2 days. So I picked up 3 of them to cover 6 days worth of meals. Way cheaper than anything I could make for myself at home. I've mentioned Mau'i food prices before (ad naseum). I only have one meal a day. Hopefully my check arrives today or Monday. Times are a bit rough at the moment. First priority is always making sure that my kitty has food. Sorry, I didn't mean to bemoan my current status. Things will change.

Its TGIF and I hope each and every one of you has a fantastic weekend. I'll be back tomorrow and hope you can make it by also.
