LIKE RATS

FROM A SINKING SHIP

Tourists are bailing off the island in a mass exodus. The departure terminal is packed. Those that are still here are just waiting for an open seat to become available.

Between the quake and the heavy rain (but no wind), some folks don't have an adventuresome spirit. There was no damage on Mau'i, as evidenced by my image post earlier this morning. People just have a tendency to panic. Geez!

The Pride Of America has been stuck in Kahului Harbor since Sunday. Seems they snagged a bouy while leaving Honolulu on Sunday morning and its cable is now wrapped around one of their propellers. Waiting for some divers to cut it free and there may be damage to the prop. Those props are specially built for each ship. So you can't really walk into a "used propeller store" to get a new one.

The bars were absolutely dead last night. I started at my usual time and got a run from The Grand to OGG. Sat around Kihei when I returned and finally had a walk-up for a short pu-pu run. My next run was taking the same guy from where I had dropped him to his residence in Maui Meadows.

That was at 10:00pm and then nothing for the next 3-1/2 hours.

Had two fares during bar close and did three back-to-back runs between 3:00am and 4:00am, one of which was to the harbor. That's how I found out about the ship's problem.

Just 8 runs all night but I did meter a hair over $150. Considering everything, that ain't too bad.

Last month I received an e-mail from a person who's friend had ridden with me back in the spring. They requested that I pick them up at OGG this Thursday. They cancelled their vacation on Monday after hearing about the quake. Feces occurs.

I am dog tired.

Later....

Aloha.
