NOVEMBER IS GOING TO BE A BLOODBATH...

FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

The GOP is still trying to grasp what has happened in the last three special elections. They lost by a landslide in that trio of contests. Now they are admitting they could easily lose 20 more House seats and 6 Senate seats this Fall. But are they willing to follow the lead of their (presumptive) presidential candidate? Of course not. McCain is considered by neo-cons to be a RINO. His precepts out of step with the party leadership. Not recognizing that the GOP is out of step with the nation's voters. A large majority of our Republican Congress members rode into Washington on the coattails of Dubya. And for 6 years they would send legislation for signature that he wanted enacted. Rubber stamping the neo-con philosophy into our legal codes. The only people who received tax breaks were big business and the top 5% of income earners. Perpetuating the "trickle-down" theory of economics espoused by HRH Reagan, 2 decades prior.

What the American people want is leaders who aren't too far left nor too far right. Leadership that will restore our Constitution as the ultimate law of the land. Both McCain and Obama are close to the center of what the country is looking for and desperately needs. McCain isn't as conservative as his party wants and Obama isn't as liberal as his party desires. Both represent the opposite side of the same moderation coin. I just hope by having two branches of government controlled by the same political party that we don't create a pendulum effect. It would be nice to see the needle pointed at the center for a (long) while.

Just my 2-cents.

ODDS & ENDS

In the 2001 United Kingdom census, 390,000 - 0.7 percent of the population - listed Jedi as their religion. I am not sure if consuming 10 liters (2½ gallons) of wine, before a service, is part of their sacraments but it sure makes their worship services noteworthy.

It seems religious services everywhere are getting a bit more arresting.

We all know the Aussies love their beer. But more than their children? I am sure (I hope) that this is not a universal concept over there.

Now this one is a new LLDE applicant.

I know the airlines are in deep fiscal doo-doo but this is beyond the pale. I guess he was lucky the flight wasn't 20 years long.

When you read tales of encounters with UFO's do you get the feeling that these non-terrestrial biological entities are just the equivalent of prankish teenage boys? At least the Vatican doesn't feel its a sin to believe in ETs. Which shows how far the Holy See has progressed over the last few centuries.

And speaking of Rome, in a very rough segue, archaeological divers have found a marble bust, among other things, of Caesar dating to about 46bce. The discovery was in the Rhone river near the French town of Arles.

Another reason I like Einstein.

In notable events for this day:
  • George Lucas was born in 1944
  • Israel became an independent nation in 1948 and the world hasn't been the same since
  • Guglielmo Marconi made the first communication by wireless telegraph in 1897
  • Louis XIV became King of France at age 4 upon the death of his father, Louis XIII, in 1643. His furniture is still popular at those upscale yard sales
  • The TV series "Seinfeld" signed off in 1998 after nine years on NBC. That was 10 years ago and I still haven't figured out what it was about
As a science fiction nut. I often have to suspend belief to enjoy the plot. Most Sci-Fi films (and TV shows) just don't get the science right. But there have been a few that did. Among two on this list that I really found fascinating were 2001 - A Space Odyssey and Gattaca. Alien was enjoyable (but come-on a creature with hydrochloric acid for saliva?), and it is the first movie that I can remember where the female lead was a kick-ass, hard-ass SOB instead of a whimpering sap.

A VERY BORING

NEWS DAY

There is a new ad showing on late night television for the energy drink AMP. I am not sure I would call it funny but it is a testimonial to our social mores. Couldn't find a version on YouTube or Google, so here is the actual website. Walk Of No Shame.Com. Check it out and possibly relate. LOL!

As anticipated, HRC won West Virginia by a 2-1 margin. YAWN. The Congressional seat in Mississippi's 1st Congressional District is now back in Democratic control for the 1st time in almost 14 years. It also marks the third Republican special election loss this year. Cheney's visit didn't help one iota.

Out in the middle of America, four salt domes are almost totally full (97%) of crude oil. Called the Strategic Oil Reserves, they were created after the Arab Oil Embargo of the early '70's. Yesterday both Houses of Congress voted overwhelmingly to halt purchasing any more crude to add to the reserves. Dubya had initially stated that he would veto any such legislation but reality has bit him in the ass. Now he isn't being so belligerent. He is only expressing disappointment. He can't afford to have another veto overridden. Before he is finally history, there will probably be a lot more disappointments in store for him.

In the closest thing to an admission of "Oops", Dubya now says he received flawed intelligence reports, but wasn't misled, in the build up to the Iraqi invasion. He is a legend in his own mind. Sad.

Out in California, the "Governator" wants to borrow against future lottery profits to balance the State's budget woes.

And there might be another Cyclone headed towards Burma/Myanmar. The Christian Taliban must be ecstatic seeing so many heathens being wiped off the face of the Earth.

In China, their military is using every means possible to get troops into the disaster area. The full scope of death and destruction still hasn't been totally determined but could easily exceed 100,000 souls and a 10,000,000 population center gone. Completely.

Not a lot of cheerful news. Sorry. Thanks for coming by. I appreciate it. Back later with more.
