Do they still do sobriety tests in the US? Every police car here carries a breath test kit.
Not all police departments have handheld breath-a-lyzers nor do all have video equipment. The field sobriety test is still the standard method of justifying the traffic stop and providing evidence to a jury that the suspect was legally intoxicated beyond the 0.08% BAC statutory limit. Also, due to American litigation procedures, it is normal to use all three methods (FST, Video, BAC test) to provide a preponderance of evidence in proof that the subject was frakkng drunk.
