Alissa is beautiful, any time of day.

She and Mom (Susan) leave tomorrow. I am going to do my darnest to get by their place this evening for one last Aloha.

Pitifully slow night. A total of 7 runs, over 10-1/2 hours, for less than $90 on the meter. Hotel occupancy drops to 50% today.

In the "high" winter tourist season?
Thats unheard of.
This past Monday marked my 13th anniversary of moving to Mau'i. In those 13 years, business has never been this slow at this time of year. What we are currently seeing is what we would expect in the slow period between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Life's A Beach was closed all night, I wasn't able to find out why. The Sports Page closed before 1:00am, no business. Kahales did stay open until 2:00am, as did the Tiki Lounge but had very few people.

The rumor is that Henry's is also going to shut down for good. Probably before the end of the month. The deal to reopen Hapa's in Ma'alaea fell through.

Apparently our earthquake last October has had a negative impact on the tourist mindset. They picture crumbled buildings and tsunamis, which, as my readers know, never happened.

On a scale of 1 to 10, my current mindset is about 2.

Oh, I mentioned before that Royal Cab was sold and the deal is planned to close on the 15th of February. The Grand Wailea has also been sold and is now owned by Morgan Stanley.

Had a big brush fire high up on Haleakala last night. I tried getting some pics but the camera couldn't "see" what I could see. It was still burning when I got home. MFD will probably start using their helicopter, after sunrise, to help extinguish it.

Until tomorrow, my friends, aloha. I hope your day will be better than mine was.
