COMMON SENSE

ISN"T REALLY "COMMON"

A very routine night. The only event of consequence was having to send a dayshift driver home. He had been driving for almost 14 hours and was starting to have memory lapses. Couldn't remember where he had been dispatched to. After the second incident, I told him to go home.

The Federal Gov't has regulations governing how long a commercial truck driver can drive. Most states have seldom enforced laws about how long any driver can operate a vehicle. Common sense should tell anyone that there is a limit to how long they can safely be behind the wheel. Greed is the only reason that cabbies work way beyond 12 hours. Greed and stupidity.

Have pity on the man who works more than he safely should. Perhaps he really needs the money. I've been there and it isn't a great place to be.

Thanks to all your beautiful photos of beaches and orchids, I am now trying to find a way to have two lives; One here where I have a nice house, good paying job (that I don't like) and manage one good diving vacation a year and a life in Maui where I can write and dive but possibly scrabble to make ends meet.
