GOOD MORNING!

BOY, I SLEPT GREAT!

I was sawing logs shortly after 10:00 PM. Woke up once about 3:30 AM and then crashed until after 7:00 AM. I haven't slept like that in years without being sick.

Talked to the 'daughter" yesterday evening. She is back on-line with a new PC. She is considerering getting a student loan and going for her LVN license. I hope she takes the leap. She has always been interested in nursing since she was a teenager but life's happenstance always seemed to put obstacles up.

Our conversation was extremely disjointed. As might be expected with a house-full of 14 year old boys and a 4 year old that wanted to be the center of attention.

Also spoke with my best friend, Fred. Fred is the guy who got me into driving a cab. He also forced me to be a bit more social. He returned to the mainland a few years back, returned here for about a year and then bought a 35 foot motorhome. Now he travels between his kids homes in the west and Pacific northwest. He is in his late 60's and wants to be close to his family for the remainder of his life. Considering his family history, he should make it into his 90's.

Nothing special going on in my part of the world. Beautiful weather, gorgeous vistas.

Did everybody remember the time change? Or were some of you an hour late today?

Have a great week!

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT

TO THE PAPARAZZI

Hayden Panettiere, who turned 18 late last August, is the current "IT" girl in Hollywood. Hounded by hordes of paparazzi every moment she is in public. Everyone wanting to watch her go into some sort of meltdown, ala Britney, Lindsay, etc.
I don't think its going to happen. This young lady seems to be very solid in her personal values. Hell, she even wears underwear when she is out in public. What Hollywood starlet does that? She can sing, act and is dang pretty. It'll be interesting watching her career.

Well, Haloscan finally fixed its problem. I see, also, that they've started adding advertisements to the top of the comments. I still like their setup and functionality better than what Blogger/Blogspot provides.

***
Another night of "normality". I was asleep, on the sofa, by 11:00 PM and woke up, in my bed, just before 5:00 AM. The strange thing is that I am now aware that I am having dreams. Not that I didn't dream before, we all do, but I haven't been conscious of dreaming for over a decade. The tension level in my neck and shoulders is also decreasing. Maybe I am coming to peace with my world, finally.

***
Those of you on the mainland, remember to set your clocks ahead by one hour before going to bed. Daylight Savings Time starts at 2:00 AM (local) when it will become 3:00 AM. Arizona and Hawai'i don't make this move. We'll switch back to Standard Time on the first Sunday in November.

Enjoy your weekend. I see that Ohio and Kentucky are expecting another major snowstorm.

Sorry, not a lot on the blog today. Maybe I can find something more interesting for tomorrow.

HALOSCAN

HAVING PROBLEMS

Do you have HaloScan on your blog? Today I am having a problem with them. I can only access the Dashboard. All other features are missing, especially Manage Comments. Its appears that the site uses frames and the main frame, where the option links are located, is missing. The functionality of posting comments is still working for visitors, as is the sidebar widget. Just can't manage the damn thing.

Anyone have a contact e-mail for HaloScan?

LIKE I SAID...

EINSTEIN WAS RIGHT

At least they didn't ask:
"Who is buried in Grant's Tomb?"

I've mentioned "Jaws" before.

Man, did I sleep good last night. For the last couple of days I have fallen asleep around the time normal people do and waking up at some god-foresaken hour of the pre-dawn morning. After all these years it feels weird.

Its Friday. Have a wonderful weekend. I'll be here if you want to stop by.

EXPULSIONS

FROM MY MIND

Thanks to Happy Thoughts for this video.

Jack-in-the-Box is a regional US fast-food chain. Very popular where it exists.

And RuPaul is, well, RuPaul.

Trying to think of things that I can cook and suddenly I remembered this:

Tamale Pie

This is a meal that Mom used to make. I had her recipe once but it vanished over the years. So I Google'd it and found many variations. This one is the closest to what I remember:
1 Heaping cup yellow corn meal
1 Cup cold water
3 Cups boiling water
1 Teaspoon garlic spread (crushed garlic can be substituted)
1 Pound of ground meat (preferably beef)
1 Medium onion chopped
1 Can whole kernel corn #2
1 Can ripe olives, whole black olives
1 Teaspoon chili powder, or more to taste
2 Cans Tomato sauce

Mix 1 heaping cup yellow corn meal and 1 cup cold water, add 3 cups boiling water and 1 teaspoon garlic spread and bring to a boil.

Brown 1pound ground meat, 1 medium chopped onion, salt and pepper, 1 can whole kernel corn #2, 1 can olives, 1 teaspoon chili powder or more, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 2 cans tomato sauce.

Add corn meal mixture and cook on low 15 minutes. Turn into 2 qt. casserole and put shredded cheese on top and bake at 400 about 20 minutes.

I was reading Jeepgirl's latest post and it started me thinking about CPR.

I had friends who worked in the Safety Department at one of the large local oil refineries. They told me about a course they were planning on attending. Something called cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Like all cops, I had Advanced First Aid certification but had seen people have heart attacks and there was nothing that I could do to help them. This was also prior to ambulance crews being EMTs or paramedics. Their training wasn't any more extensive than mine. Still what we knew was light years ahead of what was allowed less than 10 years earlier. Back then it was just "scoop & run". Whether you went in the ER door or the Morgue door was determined by your condition when they pulled into the driveway. If you're interested, you can read the History of CPR.

I joined them for the 20 hour course and, yes, I have performed CPR many times, with about a 90% success rate (they were alive when we entered the ER). Which ain't too shabby. Until the Red Cross added CPR to their curriculum in the late 70's, I think I was the only deputy who was certified to do it.

I've decided to change The Picture Gallery a bit. Rather than using the large images on the face of the blog, I am going to downsize them. Each image will still be clickable to see the gigantic size I've always tried to produce. It should speed up the loading of this site on some folks connections.

Don't forget! - Turn your clocks ahead on Saturday night for Sunday morning.

It Ain't Over 'Til The Fat Lady Sings

McCain has sewn up the nomination for the Republican ticket. It'll be interesting to see who he chooses is chosen as his running mate.

On the flip side, the street brawl between Clinton and Obama continues. Reminds me of a "toe-to-toe" heavy weight fight in the final rounds. Both combatants too exhausted to "box", so its down to a "slug-fest". Pennsylvania will probably decide the issue in April.

If you are interested, here is more than enough to put you to sleep.

Are you Happy?

It may be genetic.
