ANY IMPROVEMENT

IS POSITIVE

I came across this bill when I was counting my money. Click on image and look in the bottom right border
Well, that piqued my curiosity.
Here's the site and this is what I found out.

I've seen these before but never had the whim to check it out. The stamp is on both the front and back of the bill. Check your folding money and see if you have one like it.

This is the busiest it got last night:
Me, sitting in front of the Tiki Lounge looking across to Dog & Duck.
Kimo got lucky with two OGGs and one over to Wailuku. I know TMR made it to the airport at least once and I think "Crazy" did too. I made it to far north Kihei once and never went past the Four Seasons, at the south end of Wailea. A maximum of 9 miles apart.

Took three lasses (grandma, mom, grand-daughter) from Wailea to Antonio's, an Italian restaurant in the Long's Drug Store shopping center. Grandma showed up first at the resort, when I responded to the dispatch. A very pleasant lady from Sydney, somewhere in her mid to late 70's. I asked her how many passengers there would be and she said "4. Maybe 5". A few minutes later the 40ish mother and 9(?) year old grand-daughter climbed aboard. And shut the doors?! I inquired if this was the entire group, mom replied "Yes." It was easy to tell that she was not in the best of moods.

Had an enjoyable chat and had all three laughing by the end of the ride.

Just as I was clearing, I heard another cab pick-up on a duplication of my fare. Not to slight Antonio's in any way, its very good, but it is not a prime tourist destination from the Wailea crowd. I filed away the info, wondering if the two runs might be related

A couple of hours later, I get the call for their return. This time the passenger count was 5. We added dad and teenage (15?) grand-son. Mom and dad spoke a couple of times, in quietly harsh tembor. I could understand everyone but dad when they spoke. He enunciated in the most classic Australian accent I have ever encountered. It was a very quiet ride.

Just before midnight I picked up 5 guys going from north Kihei to the "Triangle". One of them turned 25 today and they wanted to start the birthday celebration at the stroke of the witching hour. They all stated that they were going to be late for work today. TMR was the lucky one to take them home.

Sitting in front of the Tiki Lounge (see photo above) about 12:45 AM and one of the security guards asks me if I am available.
DUH!
He had a guy with him that they desired off the property. About a 3 mile ride to his house in north Kihei and I found one of the biggest liars I have met in a very long time. He claimed he was a cop from Newport, Rhode Island USA, having been on the force for 27 years. Currently on sabbatical. He also said he was 43 years old and has been living on Mau'i for almost 2 years. Gee, thats strange. I didn't know Rhode Island hires 14 year olds as cops. He also kept trying to get me to help him go back to the bar and "rescue" his blind date from being raped by "persons unknown" because she was on the verge of passing out when he was forced to leave. Assault & Battery plus Kidnapping, thats a really smart idea. Oh, and she was 20 years old (? in a bar! Yeah, right), then 21 and finally, maybe, 22.

Gave me $12 on an $11.90. Big spender.

BRRRRR! FOR MAU'I

ITS COLD

Been getting into the upper 50's and low 60's. Okay, stop laughing. Remember there are no heaters in our houses and no insulation of any kind in the structures. The brisk winds we've been having finally calmed down and very few people own a coat, jacket, sweater or even a long sleeved shirt. I could normally raise the cab's temp but that only works when you actually have engine running. Its was so slow last night, that it was chilly just sitting and waiting for the phone to ring. I had dispatch duty last night and more cabs than we needed. The two lingering day drivers were gone by 9:00 PM. One night driver bailed at 11:30 PM and another at 12:30 AM. By 1:45 AM it was just me. The phone actually rang once during the dog-watch and added an additional $6.20 to a very paltry meter.

Had a concierge from one of the resorts in the cab and he said that his resort was booked solid but the guests weren't interested in leaving the property. Their "group" was providing all the meals and "things-to-do" right there. Heard that our day-shift is busy but these folks aren't venturing out after sunset. Do you think I can be adopted by a family from Somalia? Maybe a North Korean family will send me a CARE package? I do know that since the first of December, I have won the UK Lottery over 500 times and I've lost count of the riches that would come my way if I assisted the various people in Nigeria transfer monies out of their country.

Life is on the lean side.

My friend Van (Maui Action Photos) made a trip to the top of the mountain a couple of months ago and I was cleaning up his image file in the PC while I was "off-line" and came across these, and some more tomorrow, that I had overlooked.

I want to thank everyone for the patience.

TURNS OUT THAT...

FRIDAY WAS ANOTHER BAD SHIFT

So, I didn't miss out on anything. Luckily, Saturday was a decent night.

Logged on and was assigned first up in Kihei and within 10 minutes I had my first job of the night. Followed by one that took me into Wailea and then another which took me back into Kihei. In fact, I had 6 runs logged before 9:00 PM. Not half shabby. Waited around through most of the 9 o'clock hour before the 7th, which took me from Urgent Care, in Kihei, to MMMC (hospital) across the island. Returned them to their Kihei hotel about 2 ½ hours later. A couple of male flight attendents from San Francisco. We told jokes both directions. I expressed the opinion that I enjoyed "clean" jokes on the outbound leg and that was the ground rule we used on the return leg. No dirty jokes permitted. Lets face it, dirty jokes are easy but a clean joke takes some thinking.

Last night I looked like George Burns at 95 when I was moving around. Every muscle and joint begging me to cash in my chips and go back to bed. I plan to sleep almost the entire weekend away and drag my ass back to work on Tuesday night. Only one item on my agenda for the next 2 days, doing some laundry.

Yawn, I should have tomorrow's post up shortly after midnight, in my time zone (UTC-10). I have some rants & raves enlightened opinions to express about this REAL ID that DHS is demanding the States enact.

Enjoy your weekend.
